FROM November 19 to 27, the 2006 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition will be held at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. In Hall No. 8, Shanghai Volkswagen ("SVW"), together with VW AG and FAW-VW, will stage a luxurious display of cars at the 9-day-long show, under the theme: "VW products shine splendidly at Beijing Auto Show". Based on this concept, the VW family will step away from its usual format and arrange the cars so as to demonstrate the technical attraction and emotional appeal of the brand as a whole.
SVW will display cars on four platforms: the flagship AT version of PASSAT LINGYU 2.8 V6, POLO Jingqu 1.6 AT, Touran 1.8T Lux. AT, Santana B2 1.8L and the 2.0L AT Santana 3000. In addition to these well known models, SVW will unfold its independently developed concept car - NEEZA. To demonstrate its commitment to and optimism about China's market, VW AG will exhibit its latest model, the Cross Polo 1.4L TDI, which drew favorable comments at the recently concluded Auto Paris.
The eye-catching Cross Polo 1.4 TDI from VW AG will be one of the key highlights at the upcoming Beijing auto show. It melds a POLO styled hatchback body with bold front and rear bumpers, roof-top luggage rails and higher ground clearance, which give off the air of an unconstrained off-road vehicle. The Cross Polo also reflects sports car features, with its vigorous body contour and sporty trimming, and boasts the pragmatic functionality of a station wagon given its substantial luggage loading capacity.
This interpretation of the "Cross" concept, together with bright and energetic orange paint, have endowed the car with a unique charm of its own. Currently, the CrossPolo is quite popular on the European market, and its debut at the Beijing auto show will certainly draw more attention from Chinese consumers.
VW's presence at the current auto show is characterized by an impressive Chinese style. For instance, the garments for the models at VW booths are all designed by world-renowned Chinese designer, Vivienne Tam, whose designs offer visitors the additional experience of a world class fashion show at an auto exhibition. Vivienne Tam is known for her talent in blending eastern and western fashion into a stylish fusion.
This design philosophy is in sync with SVW's product design concept in recent years. From the PASSAT LINGYU to POLO Jinqing and Jinqu to the concept car, SVW has worked hard to establish a design style of its own, utlizing the classic design language of VW AG at the same time adding more and more local elements into its products.
This innovative effort has proven effective which is reflected in the increasing sales of PASSAT LINGYU and POLO Jinqing and Jinqu. The debut of the NEEZA concept car illustrates SVW's determination to venture further down the road towards product localization.
With the 2008 Beijing Olympics in sight, VW booths will also be imbued with an Olympic atmosphere. As an official automobile partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, VW AG, together with its Chinese partners, have demonstrated their proactive and enterprising spirit in the decoration of their booths and arrangement of activities, echoing the Olympic theme of "faster, quicker and stronger".
