THE 2006 Qingdao International Yacht Race officially began on August 18. Continuing until August 31, some 40 teams from various countries and regions will compete in nine race levels to win one of 11 gold medals. The race is one of several warm-up activities for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games,whose sailing competition will be held in Qingdao.

　　Sponsored by China's International Yacht Association and the Qingdao municipal government and undertaken by the 2006 International Yacht Race Organizing Committee, this event received strong support from the sailing and wider community.
