On March 30th, SVW invested RMB3 million yuan in setting up SVW Fund of Shanghai Education Development Fund.

On April 30th, the Shanghai Santana 2000 passed the state technical appraisal.
On May 23rd, the result of the seventh poll of “Top Ten Joint Venture (Manufacturer) in China” was published. SVW ranked third.

In July, SVW donated RMB 1,000,000 yuan to Shanghai Education Fund for Developing of Auto Industry.

On August 5th, the state administration of technology supervision and China Quality Association issued SVW with the award of “State Advanced Cost-effective Enterprise” again.
On August 12th, SVW donated one million yuan to Shanghai Charity Fund.

On September 29th, the twentieth board meeting approved of expanding the production capacity of the two existing auto plants to annual production capacity of 300 thousand cars, establishing a new engine plant, and increasing the registered capital from RMB1.2 billion yuan to RMB2.3 billion yuan.

On December 27th, SVW held the celebrating ceremony of the basic completion of the Phase II Project.

On February 20th, Santana Fund of Supporting Chinese Soccer was founded with a fund capital of RMB 10million yuan.

On March 24th, SVW donated 10 Santana cars to the first East Asia Games held in Shanghai.

In April, the state administration of technology supervision and China Quality Association granted SVW the award of “State Advanced Cost-effective Enterprise of 1992”.

On May 12th, the result of the sixth poll of “Top Ten Joint Venture (Manufacturer) in China” was published. SVW ranked fourth.

In June, the customized Santana car was put into production

In September, SVW set up SVW Scholarship Fund in Tongji University and Shanghai Engineering Technology University.

On November 17th, Germany Chancellor Mr. Kohl visited SVW again, and planted an evergreen tree on the construction site of Phase II Reconstruction of SVW.

On December 29th, the assembly of the 100,000th Santana car was finished. Vice premier of the State Council Zhu Rongji extended congratulations to SVW.

On January 1st, Shanghai Auto Factory was merged into SVW. 2,074 employees of the former Shanghai Auto Factory began their new jobs.

On January 28th, the accumulated production output of Shanghai Santana reached 100,000 units.

In March, a developing team consisting of several engineers went to Brazil Latin America Automotive Corporation to jointly design the new Santana car, and initiated developing of the new Santana car.

In June, the result of the fifth poll of “Top Ten Joint Venture (Manufacturer) in China” was published. SVW ranked first.

On June 15th, SVW sponsored China national soccer team in employing Germany coach Schlappner.

On December 10th, SVW donated RMB 2 million yuan to improve education and hospital facilities in Anting town where SVW was located, and RMB500 thousand yuan to set up SVW Red Cross Geriatric Nursing Home.

On February 6th, the general designer of China's reform and open-up Deng Xiaoping inspected SVW accompanied by Mayor Zhu Rongji.

In May, the result of the fourth poll of “Top Ten Joint Venture (Manufacturer) in China” was published. SVW ranked tenth.

On May 15th, SVW reached the goal of making 100 Santana cars per shift.

On September 12th, SVW as well as all its Chinese and foreign employees donated RMB1,180,000 yuan to relieve the people in disaster-stricken areas in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and other provinces as well as the people suffering tornado in suburb of Shanghai.

On October 20th, SVW decided to increase the registered capital to RMB1.2 billion yuan, invest RMB2.5 billion yuan in Phase II Reconstruction, and develop the new Santana car in joint effort with VWAG and Brazil Latin America Automotive Corporation on the fourteenth board meeting.

On April 18th, SVW held the celebrating ceremony for the fifth anniversary of SVW as well as the Completion of Phase I Project of SVW. On the ceremony, premier of the state council, Li Peng announced the decision of developing and open-up of Pudong made by the central government.

On April 24th, the result of the third poll of “Top Ten Joint Venture (Manufacturer) in China” was published. SVW ranked fifth.
