The concept for European models, i.e. safety first and rationalized function, is fully reflected in Polo jinqu. This factor is taken into consideration in designing every detail of the car and every safety related device. The body structure fully carries over the safety structure concept of “combining tenderness with rigidity” of the original Polo, whose elaborate workmanship and manufacturing style have all been maintained. Many of the active and passive safety measures are much superior to those of comparable cars, and they therefore have changed customers' view on the safety performance of compact cars.
Advanced and safe body structure
The left and right front longitudinal beams of Polo jinqu are made of galvanized sheet metal of different thickness by way of laser welding. The thicker part is able to maintain the vehicle stiffness and the relatively thinner part can effectively absorb impact energy. The concept of “combining tenderness with rigidity” helps to provide an ideal safe structure that ensures safety of passengers.

The upper window frame is of an integral structure to support the maximum weight with the lightest possible structure while ensuring safety, dynamics and economy. The horizontal beam of the roof is a variable cross-section one employed to increase the roof rigidity and ensure passenger space. Pillar B is intensified and made of special sheet metal. It has a limit of yielding that is more than 5 times as strong as ordinary sheet metal, thus a “bronze and iron wall” i.e. a bastion of iron, is formed against lateral impact. The front and rear doors are fitted with lateral impact bars and high strength impact panels to increase the pressure resistance and reduce the possible injury from lateral impact to the maximum. Furthermore, SVW has purchased exactly the same kind of production lines as those used by VWAG and, by applying the laser welding technology and body splicing techniques, the strength and rigidity of the bodywork has been further increased. Both sides galvanized, the body sheet metal is exceptionally corrosion resistant. Therefore no weakening of body rigidity is possible and owners are free from any anxiety. The manufacturing precision of bodywork is strictly guaranteed via the positioning point reference system, thus preventing manufacturing defects from taking place due to quality problems. Advanced technologies, such as the passenger compartment of great strength, the laser welded body, the double face galvanized sheet metal, etc. ensure a consistently high rigidity of Polo jinqu, of which the safety performance and product quality, which meet the international standards for the B-plus class cars, lead the competitors far ahead of them.
Dual SRS air bags for the front row
Polo jinqu is fitted with frontal SRS integrated air bags for both the driver and co-driver. When an air bag is blown up, the engine will stop the fuel pump at once to cut the fuel supply and protect the vehicle and passengers. After the impact, the air bag will leak automatically, the central door control will unlock, and the interior lights will be turned on automatically to allow the passengers to leave the vehicle as soon as possible.
Collapsible steering column + COF collapsible brake pedal
The steering column is of structure that is collapsible and energy absorbing and inside the column are variable components. When a head-on collision takes place, these parts can effectively reduce the impact on the driver from the steering wheel by collapsing and energy absorption. Therefore the entire steering system has a good passive safety performance and provides the driver with the highest safety.

Besides, Polo jinqu is also equipped with a COF collapsible brake pedal, which will automatically break in case of collision, thus effectively protecting the driver's feet and legs.
ABS+EBD+CBC
The ABS+EBD system of Polo jinqu is the upgraded product of ordinary ABS, which is of an advanced technology and regarded by some people as a mini ESP. The system is improved in two aspects: the noise of hydraulic adjustment is reduced to enhance the braking efficiency, and the braking stability at road bends becomes better. At the same time, Polo jinqu is specially equipped with CBS to increase the stability at road bends and driver safety as well as enjoyment of driving. EBD (electronic braking distributor) is integrated into the basic functions of ABS. While the car is being braked under normal conditions, a rational braking force is produced to avoid over-braking at the rear wheels. The safety advantages of EBD can show themselves especially when braking take place at road bends. The traditional proportioning valve limits the rear braking pressure too early and too much, whereas the EBD allows a greater braking pressure on the rear wheels but avoids their blocking at the same time via ABS' rational adjustment of the braking sliding ratio.
MSR
MSR (engine resistance force control) is an extension of the ABS function. It is integrated into the ABS control software as well. The engine resistance force is controlled by means of CAN. When driving on a rainy day or on snowy or icy slippery roads, the driver's sudden weakening of the accelerator pressure, or gearing down at high engine rpm, will over-increase the sliding ratio of the driving wheels and cause vehicle instability. At this time the MSR system will function and produce quite a great deal of engine resistance force, which will brake the vehicle without pressing the brake pedal, so as to keep a stable driving performance. Equipped with the mini ESP system and with the cooperation of CBC and MSR, the braking system of Polo jinqu adopts the front disc and rear drum method in the same way as other A0 class cars made in China. This will enable Polo jinqu to provide a better, fuller and more economical safety control, so that the users can enjoy a richer driving experience while having an equally ensured safety.
EHPS:
Polo jinqu uses EHPS (electronic & hydraulic speed sensor steering system), which few China-made cars do at present. EHPS enables the driver to adjust his strength applied to the steering wheel according to the change of speed and driving conditions, so that the driver feels that he is driving. “with less physical strength” with “a comfortable hand feel” Functions:
when driving at a high speed, the assisting power weakens or even disappears, the road feel becomes greater and the driving stability is guaranteed.
When driving at a lower speed, the assisting power increases to effect an easy driving. Advantages: free and flexible steering, all under easy control. Active safety is increased. Power is saved and fuel consumption reduced to the benefit of environmental protection.
CAN-BUS intranet control
The numerous electronic devices on Polo jinqu are controlled by the world's most advanced CAN-BUS technology, with quite a few controls functioning simultaneously, including CAN-BUS, comfort CAN-BUS and LIN BUS system. The advantages of CAN-BUS are as follows:
Regular sending of signal groups for a more accurate and faster control; Simplified circuits to reduce trouble;
Fast and simple on-line programming and diagnosis;
Simultaneous functioning of quite a few controls to realize data sharing and a more stable working status with possibility of more functions.
Intelligent rolling code electronic anti-theft system
Polo jinqu uses an intelligent rolling code electronic anti-theft system. When checking, the data are transmitted by CAN-BUS. The encryption calculation is improved with additional data to enhance the reliability of the anti-theft function. The key, the dashboard and the engine controllers store each other's data and, when checking data, random code is put in, making it difficult to decode. Besides, transmitting data through CAN-BUS increases the stability of data transmission.
Strict interior air safety control
Generally, one spends far more time indoors than in cars. Currently in China there are no clear-cut stipulations for vehicle interiors. Nevertheless, as far back as 1998 SVW introduced from VWAG a complete set of control system for interior air quality. SVW is the first company to implement European standards in a strict manner to ensure safe interior air. Even if the national standard GB 18580-2001 “LIMIT TO FORMALDEHYDE EMISSION OF INDOOR DECORATION MATERIALS, MAN-MADE PLANKS AND THEIR PRODUCTS is taken to make a comparison with, some standards that SVW follows are 9 times as strict as the current national standards for indoor air.
