Passat Lingyu inherits the European designing concept of putting safety above everything else. The design of every detail of the vehicle takes into account the vehicle safety. With the combined operation of the air bag, seat belt, headrest and other related outfits, the vehicle gives an outstanding performance in head-on collision, lateral impact and rear end collision.
Ventilated hollow disk brake is used for the front wheels and solid disk brake for the rear wheels. As they dissipate the heat promptly, the braking effect is not easily lost when running along watery roads with better and more reliable braking performance. The 2.8 V6 version is equipped with a larger braking pump of 16 inches, so a quicker and more effective braking performance is guaranteed. Apart from this, Passat Lingyu is equipped with friction disc wear alarm for the front wheels.
The bodywork structure is optimized a great deal. A newly designed high strength middle transverse beam is added to the roof to form a closed integral structure with Pillar B. In the area of Pillar C, the previous triangular window is changed to into a wider Pillar C, which is reinforced at its inner panel. The doorsill area is also optimized, so the vehicle rigidity is further enhanced and deformability further reduced.

Collapsible steering column: In case of collision, the upper and low part of the steering column is separated automatically to alleviate the impact on the driver from the steering wheel. Therefore the steering system is of a good passive safety, providing the driver with the highest safety during a collision.

MK20 ABS + system is used for ABS. It is an upgraded product of ordinary ABS, which some people describe as mini ESP. Two improvements have been made: the hydraulic adjustment noise is reduced to increase the braking effect, and a better stability for turning at road bends is achieved.
EBD (electronic braking distribution) is integrated in the basic functions of ABS. A rational braking pressure is formed in regular braking, so to prevent over braking of the rear wheels. In road bend braking, the advantages of EBD show themselves particularly in terms of safety. Traditional proportioning valves exercise too big a premature limit to the rear wheel braking pressure, but EBD can appropriately adjust the brake-sliding ratio to allow the rear wheels a greater pressure without blocking them.
A frontal air bag (60L) is provided for the driver, and the co-driver is also provided with a frontal air bag (120L). Air bags provide the passengers with cushioning protection just like air cushions do to reduce passenger’s physical injury during an impact. The deluxe version is even equipped with lateral air bags beside the front seats to provide the occupiers with safety guarantee in a collision.
When the air bag explodes, the engine stops the fuel pump at once to cut the fuel supply and protect the passengers and vehicle. After the collision, the air bag leaks automatically, the central lock unlocks and the interior lights are automatically turned on, so that passengers are allowed to leave the vehicle as soon as possible.
The 2.8 version is equipped with ESP (electronic stabilizing program) to enhance stability when turning at road bends or changing lanes, and to reduce dangers from rear end wagging during braking, acceleration or free driving.
Passat Lingyu 1.8T is equipped with EDS (electronic differential lock). When the car starts on a road that is slippery on one side or starts on an inclined road, the driving wheels where the road grip is low tend to slip. At this time EDS adjusts the driving wheel automatically to prevent it from slipping, thus greatly improving the starting acceleration in bad weathers.
All the seat are provided with three-point seat belt, and the left or right side of the front and rear seats are equipped with a seat belt system that has an advanced pyrotechnic retractor limiting device. This kind of seat belt system is many times the price of ordinary three-point seat belt. The middle rear seat is also provided with a three-point seat belt to greatly increase the safety of passenger on that seat.
Newly developed through type dual-diaphragm (8 and 9 inches respectively) vacuum booster is used on the car. It works with different boosting ratio for ordinary braking and high braking pressure, thus enlarging the working range of the booster and improving the comfort of the brake pedal as well. Besides, the use of through type structure enables a direct transmission of braking pressure with a shorter idle stroke and a more sensitive braking. The braking efficiency of the 8+9 booster is remarkably better than previous brake boosters generally used on cars.
The front seat headrest is adjustable in height and in angles. The rear seats are provided with 3 separate headrests that are easy for passenger adjustment according to their needs. The headrests work in cooperation with the seat belts to provide a cushioning effect and protect the passengers from impact on their heads during an accident.
