Distinguished guests, Ladies and gentlemen:
Thanks to the outstanding leadership of China Auto Sports Federation,
thanks to the vigorous support from Shanghai Sports Bureau and Shanghai
Auto & Motorcycle Sports Association, and thanks to generous
help of all of you and the media, Shanghai Volkswagen 333 Team achieved
a landslide in the 2002 Season. We would also like to extend out
gratitude to all the sponsors for our team, especially to Shanghai
SAIC Volkswagen Auto Sales Company and Shanghai Volkswagen Co.,
Ltd. We could not have succeeded without you. Thank you!
The 2002 Season is a year of copious harvest for Shanghai Volkswagen
333 Team. What¡¯s more pleasing is that we get something even more
important than the performance¨C it¡¯s our ¡°strength¡±.
For instance, what we find in the match is that, as the overall
performance of each team is improving, the competition is getting
fiercer and the race is usually to close to call until the last
minute of the game. So the on-site command and coordination is essential
at such a critical moment! Through analysis, we find that appropriate
command requires timely and accurate information. That¡¯s why our
team has developed a set of computer software that is able to provide
in the shortest time real-time information such as performance comparison
between us and our competitors for a single lap or multiple laps,
comparison of scores of a stage, and anticipation of total score.
This program was put into operation in Beijing.
Analysis of our performance and that of competing teams is automatically
generated after each lap on different road conditions and it predicted
the advantages of our team in the ¡°Che¡¯er Camp¡± lap and the possible
leading time in this lap. With the valuable information, our team
immediately came up with a strategy that was to ¡°Win the Che¡¯er
Camp¡±, ¡°Keep steady on Haijia Road¡± and ¡°Defend in the short-track
match¡±. In addition, based on the information shown in the computer,
the team also adjusted the ¡°minimum time limit¡± for the ¡°Haijia
Road¡± and the ¡°Short track ¡± match ¨C as long as we are within the
minimum time limit, we would be able to maintain our overall leading
position with the advantages we won in the ¡°Che¡¯er Camp¡±. It proved
that, despite an unfavorable start in the Beijing station, our team
managed to win at last with its ¡°strength¡±.
After practice in several matches, the software has met our desired
needs as it not only provides timely match information to ensure
correct command in fierce competition for victory of the team, but
also offers basis for future analysis and research.
We were confronted with mighty competitors in each match of 2002
Season; however, it was the competition and pressure that spurred
us to learn quicker from the matches.
Despite outstanding performance, we were not complacent. Instead,
we held meetings after each match to list all our weaknesses identified
and make in-time improvement. For instance, after the match in Shanghai
Station and Wuhan Station, we found that the maintenance capability
of the team needed to be improved. Therefore, a complete learning
and training program was developed to improve the team¡¯s maintenance
performance. 6-7:30 every morning was the time of endurance training
including soccer and mount climbing that are both exercise and entertainment,
as well as physical exercise such as jogging, tire carrying, push-up,
leapfrog, etc, which not only prepared maintenance staff for the
hardship of the match but also built up desired team discipline.
In addition to normal working hours, every afternoon and evening
from Tuesday to Thursday is dedicated to studying English, auto
techniques and game rules with the hope to raise the overall quality
of our maintenance team through increasingly difficult and intensive
study. Field training is held on every Friday. And so far, our maintenance
staffs have been trained in all kinds of severe weather conditions
such as intense summer, heavy rain, and low temperature and their
¡°capability in campaign¡± was significantly improved.
It¡¯s said that support from sponsors is indispensable for race teams.
It is true. We have got vigorous support and help from SAIC Volkswagen
and Shanghai Volkswagen and we are looking forward to participation
of more sponsors in racing. Meanwhile, we view sponsors¡¯ support
as nutritious and fresh blood; and as a race team, we have to strictly
discipline ourselves to build up our own strength to win trust and
support from sponsors as well as to effectively utilize the ¡°blood¡±
to make the team an invincible team. Otherwise, it is irreverent
to ourselves, to the sponsors and to the racing game!
We¡¯ll continue to learn the advanced management philosophy from
SAIC Volkswagen and Shanghai Volkswagen, especially the attitude
of preciseness and practicability that we learn from German. No
complacence, no giving up. We are committed to steadfast improvement
to achieve better performance in 2003. Thank you.
